“The Darkest Minds tend to hide behind the most unlikely faces.”
The dystopian young adult novel takes place somewhere in the future where a mysterious disease is killing most of America’s children. At the age of 10 Ruby wakes up, something has changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government camp. She might have survived the mysterious disease that's killed most of America's children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now at 16, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.
Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she's on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her-East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can't risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Oh my lord! How do I talk about this? I simply don’t know. As I finished the book, I glanced at my phone to check the time. 2:53am. Wow. I sat there, rendered speechless and non-functional.

It was chilling. I think the world of The Darkest Minds is incredibly harsh in a way a lot of YA authors seem to shy away from. People die and in incredibly brutal ways. There are multiple factions and every single one of them is dangerous and vicious. This world is horrifying and that is what makes it work. Contrary to what I had expected, I lost myself in the book. I’ve read a lot of Dystopian novels and series, Hunger Games, Divergent, Uglies, The Host, Wither and Cinder. But, the one book I could believe in was The Darkest Minds.

I don’t plan on spoiling anything (So hard not to!) But honestly, the characters were so well developed and it was breath taking to watch them grow. The way they interacted with each other. Oh my. They were so so different from one another. It was truly refreshing. Like sure, there was romance, but it wasn’t cheesy or cliché. Another thing I loved. Other Dystopian authors, are you taking notes? The unique relationships, their behaviour towards one another. Truly beautifully written! It was funny and witty!!!

“It feels like we should do something," he said. "Like, send her off on a barge out to sea and set her on fire. Let her go out in a blaze of glory."
Chubs raised an eyebrow. "It's a minivan, not a Viking.”

“But hey, what's life without a little adversity?"
That had to have been the fakest attempt at optimism since my fourth grade teacher tried reasoning that we were better off without the dead kids in our class because it'd mean more turns on the playground swings for the rest of us.”

Plot = Perfection. Enough said.

Not much I can say without spoiling the book. But I can say that, it was amazing. GET THE BOOK NOW! IT HAS COMEDY! ROMANCE! THRILLER AND SUSPENSE! ACTION! BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS, CHARACTERS YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH AND HEART WRENCHING SCENES! SO MANY FEELS!

 Alexandra Bracken you have managed to weave my heart full of glowing bright fibers of pure gold and happiness, then, just when I decide to blink, managed to crushed it with a giant sledge hammer over and over again into tiny pitiful particles in the form of tears…
AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT! I spent a few minutes considering therapy afterwards. Excuse me while I go and change the bandages around my heart.

Basically, this was one of those books where, whenever you're not reading it and you remember that it's waiting for you at home, you smile.
